How does "Beidou" enter non-exposed spaces such as underground and subways? How to achieve convenience for the people? Academicians, experts and business representatives talk like this
When satellites are launched into the sky, the focus is on grounding them. On August 31, the "5th CCID Beidou Application Salon and Central Plains Non-Exposed Space Academic Forum" event was held in Zhengzhou. Academicians, experts and representatives of well-known domestic enterprises communicated on the same stage to study and discuss the current application status and future development of positioning technology in non-exposed space, and promote the application and promotion of Beidou in non-exposed space.
On July 31, 2020, China solemnly announced to the world that China’s independently constructed and independently operated Beidou-3 global satellite navigation system has been fully completed. China’s Beidou has opened a new era of high-quality services to the world and benefiting mankind. For a time, "Beidou" became a hot word that attracted much attention. As a strategic emerging industry, the Beidou satellite navigation industry also ushered in unprecedented historic opportunities.

What are the uses of Beidou navigation applications in non-exposed spaces?
What is a non-exposed space? "Non-exposed space is defined relative to exposed space, and is more of an indoor or semi-indoor scene." Xi Wei, general manager of Chanson Rail Transit Technology Co., Ltd., one of the organizers of this event, said in an interview with a reporter from Dahe.com that at present, Beidou navigation applications are developing in the direction of integrated PNT (positioning, navigation and timing) for indoor, underwater, and deep space. Among them, it is widely used in non-exposed spaces such as urban rail transit, tunnels, coal mines, factories, shopping malls, and hospitals.
"No one is used to using navigation indoors. In fact, we need it." Xiwei gave an example. For example, when parking in a shopping mall, you need to remember which area and parking space number you parked in. Many times you are afraid that you will forget to take a photo. It is still very difficult to find a car after walking around the mall, and you may even get lost. If there is accurate navigation and positioning, it will directly locate the parking space where the vehicle is located, which will save a lot of time in finding a vehicle.
Xiwei told reporters that Chanson Rail Transit Technology Co., Ltd. is the first company in Henan to carry out non-exposure space positioning business. "From a national perspective, non-exposure spatial positioning technology is in a very early incubation stage, and there are many difficulties. One is the technical difficulty. It is not that the technology cannot be reached, but the cost of the technology is too high. The other is social and environmental issues. The market needs to be cultivated, and many people do not understand the need for this."
With the development of smart cities and new infrastructure, the need for accurate positioning technology has become more urgent. "Non-exposed space positioning is a technical problem in the world, and it is also a bottleneck that restricts the development of the entire smart city." Li Jun, chief engineer of Chanson Rail Transit Technology Co., Ltd., said in an interview with a reporter from Dahe.com that they have studied the spatio-temporal system of Beidou's non-exposed space to realize the supplement, enhancement and backup of Beidou's application in the entire non-exposed space, breaking the boundaries and barriers between indoor and outdoor spaces.
What kind of "chemical reaction" will occur in "Beidou + Metro"?
Urban rail transit safety is an important application field of Beidou in non-exposed spaces. As the central city of the country and the core city of the Central Plains urban agglomeration, Zhengzhou needs to build a modern large city that is safe, smart, efficient, energy-saving, green and environmentally friendly. This is inseparable from the help of Beidou high-tech.
Xu Shupeng, deputy director of the Technical Management Department of Zhengzhou Metro Group Co., Ltd., said in an interview with a reporter from Dahe.com that the subway has an urgent need for accurate positioning of underground space. "For example, trains have a need for precise positioning while running. Currently, the positioning of trains has been solved through technical means. In the future, the demand for precise positioning will be very high in the train-to-train communication stage, and precise positioning technology in underground space needs to be introduced. Secondly, the maintenance of equipment in tunnel space also requires precise positioning, which can help to find faults in motion, position accurately, and maintenance personnel can go to the site to deal with them in time."
Xu Shupeng told reporters that he participated in the forum this time because he wanted to understand the application scenarios and environments of the Beidou positioning system, and at the same time understand some of Beidou's extended technologies to see how it solves the problem of precise positioning in non-exposed spaces.
A Dahe.com reporter learned that based on the positioning needs of urban rail transit, Chanson Rail Transit Technology Co., Ltd. has developed and constructed an urban rail transit positioning system. The system integrates technologies such as "BDS+UWB+spatial digitalization" and refers to the Beidou Satellite Navigation System (BDS) to establish an "underground Beidou system" for urban rail transit. Under a unified time and space benchmark, it can achieve the availability, accuracy, reliability, continuity and robustness of positioning, timing, communication and other services. At present, the system has been delivered as an experimental prototype at Sihui Station of Beijing Metro Line 1. The experimental results are good and the system has successfully passed the acceptance test.
At the scene, a reporter from Dahe.com interviewed Liang Jia, a senior engineer at the Communications and Signal Branch of Beijing Metro Operations Co., Ltd. He told reporters that in view of the problems faced by the Beijing Subway, such as a large number of construction workers, a large number of large machinery, and backward safety supervision methods, the "Underground Beidou System" was established to achieve precise positioning of personnel and material equipment, as well as to reduce costs and increase efficiency.
"Beijing Metro has determined the development direction of 'Beidou + 5G + smart subway' to improve the efficiency of section management and the intelligence and refinement of services. In the future, the 'Underground Beidou System' will gradually be opened to passengers to provide passengers with diversified and differentiated services." Liang Jia said.
Liang Jia also told reporters that Zhengzhou has a relatively high starting point in subway construction and needs more steady development. "By participating in the forum this time, I learned about the determination and achievements of Zhengzhou and Henan in developing Beidou-related industries. I believe that the Beidou industry will definitely take root and flourish in Zhengzhou."
It is reported that the academic exchanges at the Saidi Beidou Application Salon embody the efforts and hopes of the older generation of scientists. Sun Jiadong, winner of the "Two Bombs and One Satellite" Merit Medal, academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and chief designer of the lunar exploration project, said in a congratulatory letter to this salon: "I hope you can bring navigation and positioning into underground space, into subway space, into more non-exposed spaces, and combine it with Beidou's outdoor navigation and positioning to comprehensively improve the Beidou space-time system and contribute to people's livelihood travel and smart transportation."
Yang Yuanxi, deputy chief designer of the Beidou Navigation System and academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, also sent a congratulatory message to this Beidou Application Salon and the Central Plains Non-Exposed Space Academic Forum: "I hope that with the strong support of the China Satellite Navigation and Positioning Association and the Zhengzhou Municipal People's Government, this academic seminar will be used as a cooperation platform to promote close cooperation between navigation companies, application units and universities in the Central Plains region, and promote the development of Beidou applications in non-exposed space."
