Launch successful! The Tiantong-1 satellite is new, with wide coverage, multiple uses and stable signal

The system consists of a space segment, a ground segment and user terminals.After the Tiantong-102 satellite enters orbit, it will operate in a network with the Tiantong-101 satellite to form a space segment.


During its on-orbit operation, the Tiantong-102 satellite will cover my country’s territory (including maritime territory).
On the basis of this, it will expand the coverage of countries in the Belt and Road region and bring communication convenience to employees of multinational companies, "travelers" who love extreme tourism, and fishermen.

On August 6, 2016, the Tiantong-1 satellite developed by the Communications Satellite Division of the Fifth Academy was successfully launched. It is the first satellite of my country's satellite mobile communication system and is also known as the "Chinese version of maritime satellite", marking my country's entry into the era of satellite mobile communications and mobile phones. The satellite has been operating stably in orbit for 4 years.

After pilot application and review, on December 18, 2019, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology approved China Telecom’s Tiantong business for official commercial use. China Telecom has now launched the "1740" Tiantong dedicated number segment to provide stable and reliable voice, text messages, traffic and related value-added services. A variety of Tiantong dedicated voice terminals and data terminals are commercially available.


Bian Bingxiu, commander-in-chief of Tiantong-102 Star of the Fifth Academy of Aerospace Science and Technology Group, introduced,Tiantong-102 satellite is the second satellite in the Tiantong-1 series, with a design life of 12 years, the satellite fully inherits the technical status of the 01 satellite, and further optimizes the design of the satellite platform and payload according to usage requirements, enhancing the usage flexibility of the 02 satellite.

The Tiantong-102 satellite will serve the “Belt and Road” construction and provide all-weather, all-day, stable and reliable mobile communication services for users in China and surrounding areas, the Middle East, Africa and other related regions, as well as most of the Pacific and Indian Oceans, supporting voice, short message and data services.

With the development of the demand for mobile satellite services, international mobile satellite systems have formed multiple global or regional mobile communication systems, including the Iridium satellite system, the Seraya system and the International Mobile Communications Satellite System. in the country, the Tiantong-1 satellite mobile communication system has been widely used.

Chen Mingzhang, chief designer of Tiantong-102 satellite, introduced,Satellite mobile communication systemIt mainly provides diversified medium and low-speed communication services for miniaturized mobile terminals (including ground personal mobile terminals, vehicle-mounted terminals, airborne terminals, and ship-mounted terminals).

Compared with terrestrial mobile communication systems, satellite mobile communication has wide coverage and good environmental adaptability.It can achieve nearly seamless coverage in areas such as oceans, mountainous areas, and plateaus, and meet the needs of various users for mobile communication coverage. It has important civilian and commercial value.

According to research statistics from relevant departments,By 2025, the demand for various satellite mobile terminal users in my country will exceed 3 million households, users will cover all aspects of personal communications, ocean transportation, ocean fisheries, air passenger transportation, bipolar scientific research, and international peacekeeping.

In the future, the Tiantong-102 satellite and the Tiantong-101 satellite operating in orbit and subsequent planned satellites will further enhance satellite mobile communication service capacity, system reliability and regional coverage capabilities, forming a regional mobile communication system integrating satellite and ground, providing stable satellite mobile communication services for countries along the “Belt and Road” and aviation and navigation routes.


The Long March 3B carrier rocket that carried out this launch mission was developed by the First Academy of Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation. The rocket for this mission has undergone process optimization and improvement.
