Official丨Beidou-3 joins ICAO standards and achieves major milestones

Recently, the sixth plenary meeting of the ICAO Navigation System Expert Group was successfully held in the form of a video conference. All 189 performance indicators of the Beidou-3 Global Satellite Navigation System (hereinafter referred to as the "Beidou-3 Global System") passed the technical verification, marking the successful completion of the core and main task of the Beidou-3 Global System entering ICAO standards work. It shows that the Beidou-3 Global System's ability to provide services for global civil aviation has been internationally recognized, laying a solid foundation for the comprehensive promotion of Beidou aviation applications.

　　In accordance with the relevant requirements of ICAO, the four major global satellite navigation systems are required to complete the indicator verification work of relevant technical standards, and each technical indicator must provide sufficient demonstration materials and be unanimously recognized by the other three systems before it can pass the verification. Since 2010, with the strong support of the Civil Aviation Administration of China, the China Satellite Navigation System Management Office has organized more than 20 civil aviation and Beidou system engineering construction units such as Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics to give full play to the relevant forces of industry, academia, research and application, and closely collaborate to carry out a large number of standard research, indicator verification, performance testing, international coordination and other work. Breakthroughs in a number of major key technologies have lasted for 10 years, participated in more than 50 international coordination meetings, submitted more than 100 documents of various types, totaling more than 1,000 pages, and answered more than 2,000 questions.

The civil aviation field is the strategic commanding heights of satellite navigation applications where global aerospace powers compete. The Beidou-3 global system has fully passed the standard technical verification of the International Civil Aviation Organization. It is not only a milestone in the standard advancement of the Beidou system in the civil aviation field, but also laid a solid foundation for the expansion of other industrial standards, which is of great significance to the promotion of the aviation application of the Beidou system.

In the follow-up, the ICAO Navigation System Expert Group will submit the results of this meeting to the Air Navigation Commission for review. After adoption, ICAO will solicit opinions from all countries on the draft standard. After confirmation, it will be officially released to the world.
