On March 8th, pay tribute to the Beidou heroines!
today is
The 111th International Women’s Day
From the European and American women's movement in 1909 to today, 112 years later, working women have contributed an indelible force to promoting social progress. There are female workers working day and night in all walks of life, and the Beidou industry is no exception. A large number of female workers have devoted themselves to the innovation and development of Beidou. Among Beidou people, there are a large number of outstanding women who are called "Beidou Goddess" because of their outstanding contributions. Taking advantage of this festival, let's experience the charm and value of several representative Beidou women.
Yang Hui: The brightest "star" in the night sky
When Yang Hui participated in the 50th issue of "You Words", she said: “My participation in the Beidou Generation project came after the Beidou-1 project was officially established. Beidou-1 is the cradle of my growth, and I am very grateful to it. Faced with one problem after another, we kept putting forward ideas, verifying them again, overturning them again, and moving forward little by little. It is no exaggeration to describe that period as "burning with passion". At night, the lights in the office are always very bright. We kept spinning like this until April 2007, when we successfully "shot" the test star into the sky. For more than ten years, we have been struggling silently. No matter day or night, all on-orbit colleagues are on call 24 hours a day. I remember that Beidou-2 "hit" the last satellite last year. At about 3 o'clock in the morning, we went down to the canteen for a late-night snack. The cafeteria prepared beer to celebrate our victory. With that bottle of beer, I let myself cry once, I thought I would be relieved, but at that moment, I felt very complicated. People's requirements for the accuracy of time and location are never-ending, which requires the Beidou system to continue to move forward. We will also keep moving forward, towards Beidou, never ending. "
Zhang Runhong: my country’s first female launch site commander
"5, 4, 3, 2, 1, fire up!"
For the first time, a female countdown sounded at the launch site of Xichang Satellite Launch Center. Female aerospace general Zhang Runhong became the first female "01" commander of China's space launch site. The 41st Beidou navigation satellite was successfully launched.
This is not only Zhang Runhong’s “debut”, but also the first time in China’s aerospace history——For the first time, a woman serves as the commander of launch site "01".
"No matter how impossible a dream is, it cannot withstand a fool's persistent pursuit." Zhang Runhong said, "With the sacred mission of building a powerful aerospace country and building a world-class launch site, each of us astronauts should have ambition. This ambition has no distinction between positions and men and women. As long as we all dare to be ambitious and strive to be astronauts in the new era of dreaming about space, we will surely be able to create more miracles in China!"
Wang Shufang: Chasing Star Beidou and Realizing Dreams of Transportation
Wang Shufang served as Beidou designer at the age of 28 and chief designer at the age of 32.He is not only the demonstrator of two generations of Beidou system solutions, but also the author of four national military standards. Her many achievements have filled the gaps in the country.
It has been 22 years since the first starting gun was fired for the construction of the Beidou system. "Beidou people" have created miracles one after another and pushed China's satellite navigation industry to the top of the world. Wang Shufang also dedicated her 22 years of youth to "China Beidou".
"Stepping on the morning glow, facing the wind and snow, the city flies by, and the high-speed railway passes by the mountains. Wild birds carry catkins from branches to their winter nests. They are late and middle-aged, and they have no time to waste time." This is a poem she wrote impromptu while on a business trip.
Wang Shufang spends most of the year traveling around the country. She said that if through her work, even a traffic accident can be avoided or even one person's life can be saved, her efforts will be worth it!
Xu Ying: Scientific research and popularization shine together
With shawl hair, a black leather jacket, arms crossed on her chest, and a faint smile, 36-year-old Xu Ying appeared on the cover of a pioneering youth magazine.
Xu Ying is now leading a scientific research team of the Chinese Academy of Sciences to develop ground navigation enhancement technology for the Beidou satellite system.
Some people call Xu Ying a genius, but she considers herself "just an ordinary scientific researcher", no different from most women, "who likes to relieve her stress by eating snacks and shopping."
When she was once asked whether women are suitable for scientific research, Xu Ying joked, "Using gender to judge whether women are suitable for scientific research is like using zodiac signs to judge, it is not scientific at all!"
Her humor, frankness, and easy-to-understand science popularization have attracted millions of clicks and retweets on Chinese social media. She has also been praised by netizens as the "Goddess of Beidou." Even the People’s Daily commented, “Science popularization needs more ‘Xu Ying’”.
2019,Xu Ying was once again appointed as the image ambassador of "Science Popularization in China" by the China Association for Science and Technology, recipients of this honor include Ouyang Ziyuan, chief scientist of China's lunar exploration program, and Yang Liwei, China's first astronaut in space.
Wang Li: Looking up at the stars, aerospace power
Wang Li, Director of the International Cooperation Center of China Satellite Navigation System Management Office (referred to as "Guohe Center")
As a first-generation Beidou person, Wang Li has been involved in my country's aerospace industry since she started working in the early 1980s. She was also one of the first members to participate in the overall demonstration and design of the Beidou system.
On June 23, 2020, the last Beidou-3 global networking satellite was successfully launched. So far, 30 Beidou-3 satellites have circled the earth, marking that my country has completed the deployment of the Beidou-3 global satellite navigation system constellation half a year ahead of schedule.
When I saw the successful deployment of the satellite's solar panels and the "big red screen" of the successful Beidou launch, I couldn't contain my excitement. "Like all Beidou people, Wang Li was extremely proud the moment she saw the rocket take off.
After the Beidou system mission was successfully completed, Wang Li finally had some rest time. Taking advantage of her rare free time, she watched a previous episode of the popular variety show "Sisters Riding the Wind and Waves". This episode happened to be co-hosted by Yang Lan as a guest. Wang Li deeply agreed with the topic of "women should define themselves by themselves".
"Today, women are becoming more independent, confident, and self-reliant, and their lives are not and need not be defined by others. Taking the aerospace industry that I am familiar with as an example, there are a lot of female scientific researchers who hold key positions and play a key role."
