China News Service, Hong Kong, June 3 (Reporter Zhang Xiaoxi) Xu Ying, a researcher at the Institute of Aerospace Information Innovation of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, said at a forum held in Hong Kong on the 3rd that the application and development of the Beidou satellite navigation system has broad prospects. In the future, it will strengthen its integration with strategic frontier technologies such as unmanned driving and 5G communications, integrate into new infrastructure, and spawn new industries.

The United Hong Kong Fund held a forum on the 3rd and invited Xu Ying to give a speech on the theme of "Beidou Guidance and Innovative Future". Xu Ying attended via video and made the above remarks.

Xu Ying gave a speech titled "Beidou Satellite Navigation Changing Our Lives" in Hong Kong in 2016, sharing the development process and application of the Beidou Satellite Navigation System. In this speech, she explained the high-quality performance and development prospects of Beidou to Hong Kong citizens, and communicated with Hong Kong scholars and industry figures who attended the forum.
The Beidou satellite navigation system independently developed by China began to provide global services in July 2020. Xu Ying introduced that as China's "golden key to guarding the country", Beidou can currently provide all-weather, high-precision positioning, navigation and timing services, and is integrated into the construction of infrastructure such as power, finance, and communications. It is also widely used in transportation, agriculture, forestry and fishery, meteorological forecasting, disaster relief and mitigation, and is known as the world's four major satellite navigation systems along with the American Global Positioning System, the European Galileo positioning system, and the Russian GLONASS system.

In addition to meeting China's domestic demand, Xu Ying said that Beidou-related products are also exported to more than 120 countries and regions around the world, including more than 30 countries along the "Belt and Road". Land surveying and mapping in Uganda, precision agriculture in Myanmar, warehousing and logistics in Thailand, drone applications in Cambodia, etc. all use Beidou positioning and navigation services.

Xu Ying believes that the future development of Beidou will have unlimited possibilities, and will continue to strengthen the integration of Beidou with strategic cutting-edge technologies such as the Internet of Things, driverless driving, artificial intelligence, 5G communications, and blockchain, promote Beidou's integration into new infrastructure, and give birth to new industries. It is expected that by the end of the country's "14th Five-Year Plan", the overall output value of China's satellite navigation and location services will exceed one trillion yuan, and the global market share will increase to four times the current level.

She also said that China will continue to promote the industrialization of Beidou and build a more extensive, more integrated, and smarter national comprehensive positioning, navigation, and timing system with Beidou as the core by 2035 to serve the country's modernization drive and people's daily life, and contribute to global scientific, technological, economic, and social development.

"I believe that adhering to the Beidou spirit of the new era of 'independent innovation, openness and integration, unity, and pursuit of excellence', we will be able to achieve success," Xu Ying said.
