At 23:59 on November 12, 2020, my country successfully launched the Tiantong-102 satellite using the Long March-3B carrier rocket at the Xichang Satellite Launch Center, which means another substantial breakthrough in my country's satellite mobile communications construction. The Tiantong-1 satellite 02 will provide services together with the Tiantong-1 first satellite 01 launched on August 6, 2016, providing all-weather and all-region mobile communication guarantees for my country and countries along the Belt and Road, becoming an indispensable information infrastructure.

The Tiantong-1 satellite mobile communication system is a satellite mobile communication system independently developed and constructed by my country. It is also an important part of my country's space information infrastructure. The Tiantong-102 satellite launched this time is an important part of the Tiantong-1 satellite mobile communication system.


The system consists of a space segment, a ground segment and user terminals. After the Tiantong-102 satellite enters orbit, it will operate in a network with the Tiantong-101 satellite to form a space segment.


During its on-orbit operation, the Tiantong-102 satellite will expand the coverage of countries in the Belt and Road region on the basis of covering my country's territory (including maritime territory), bringing communication convenience to employees of multinational companies, "travelers" who love extreme tourism, and fishermen.  


Bian Bingxiu, commander-in-chief of the Tiantong-1 02 satellite of the Fifth Academy of Aerospace Science and Technology Group, introduced that the Tiantong-1 02 satellite is the second satellite in the Tiantong-1 series, with a design life of 12 years. The satellite fully inherits the technical status of the 01 satellite, and further optimizes the design of the satellite platform and load according to the usage requirements, which enhances the use flexibility of the 02 satellite.


Compared with similar foreign systems, Tiantong No. 1 has independent and controllable advantages in terms of tariff price, resource control and confidentiality. Communication services in lower frequency bands can be used to truly realize mobile communications. As a result, its service scope will widely cover disaster relief, personal communications, ocean transportation, ocean fisheries, air passenger transportation, bipolar scientific research, international peacekeeping, etc., which is of great significance. The Tiantong-1 01 satellite has covered the entire territory of our country. According to the plan, in the near future, the 03 satellite will also be launched to form a regular coverage of the central and eastern Pacific, the Indian Ocean and the "Belt and Road" region, meeting the needs of users from the government, special institutions, industries, and the public.
